LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st Reading

Isaiah 66 (12-14)

A reading from the book of Isaiah:

12 For thus says the LORD:

Lo, I will spread prosperity over her like a river,

and the wealth of the nations like

an overflowing torrent.

As nurslings, you shall be carried in her arms,

and fondled in her lap;

13 As a mother comforts her son,

so will I comfort you;

in Jerusalem you shall find your comfort.

l4 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice,

and your bodies flourish like the grass;

The LORD'S power shall be known to his servants,

      but to his enemies, his wrath.

Responsorial Psalm (SUNG)

Psalm 25: 4-5, 8-9, 10, 14

R: To you, O Lord, I lift my soul, to you I lift up my soul

Your ways, O Lord, make known to me;

Teach me your paths,

Guide me in your truth and teach me,

For you are God my savior,

And for you I wait all the day.

R: To you, O Lord, I lift my soul, to you I lift up my soul

Good and upright is the Lord;

Thus he shows sinners the way.

He guides the humble to justice,

And teaches the humble his way

R: To you, O Lord, I lift my soul, to you I lift up my soul

All the paths of the Lord are kindness and constancy

Toward those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear him.

And his covenant, for their instruction.

R: To you, O Lord, I lift my soul, to you I lift up my soul

2nd Reading (proclaimed in Vietnamese)

1 Corinthians 13 (1-13)

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians:

1  If I speak in human and angelic tongues, but do not

 have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.

2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

3  If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body

over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain

nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is

not pompous, it is not inflated, 5 it is not rude, it does not

seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not

brood over injury, 6 it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but

rejoices with the truth. 7 lt bears all things, believes all

things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails.  If there are prophecies, they will be

brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.

9For we know partially and we prophesy partially, lo but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.

l2 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.

l3 So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Proclamation of the Gospel (Deacon John Ries)

Matthew 18 (1-5)

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew:

1  At that time the disciples approached Jesus and

 said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of

heaven?" 2 He called a child over, placed it in their midst,

3 and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become

like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in

the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one child

   such as this in my name receives me.

1. READING AND PRESENTATION OF THE DECREE

Statement of the Archbishop:

God is love.  In the desire to allow us to share in this love, God sent his Son into the world to come to our aid, and in gentle kindness help those who are weak, sick or unfortunate. Christ has told us that whatever we do for the least among us we do for him, and that in so doing we will share with him eternal life.   It is in this spirit that we acknowledge the Family of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus as a spiritual association formed for the purpose of praying and performing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Reading of the Decree by the Chancellor (Mary Jo Tully)

Prayer (Archbishop)

Let us pray.

Loving and gracious God,

send your richest blessing upon this newly formed association.

May it grow and flourish

and so become an example to all of prayer and service

on behalf of our brothers and sisters.

May its members follow Christ’s example of prayer and charity

as the foundation for all they do.

We ask this Christ our Lord.

Amen.
